FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The information needed to register a warranty includes installation date, shingle type, shingle color and number of squares.

Warranties can be transferred to the second owner of the roof as long as the transfer occurs within 60 days of the real estate transfer. Warranties can be transferred by clicking on the "Transfer a Warranty" link below or calling 1-800-ROOFING. When you call, please be prepared to provide documentation including proof of purchase, proof of ownership and transfer fee based on the year your roof was installed.

Having your roof installed by an Owens Corning® Roofing Platinum or Preferred Contractor can have a big impact on your warranty coverage. For standard product limited warranties, anyone can install provided the proper installation instructions and local building codes are followed. For extended warranty protection options, an Owens Corning Roofing Platinum or Preferred Contractors are the only roofing professionals authorized to install.
As an owner of a single family detached home, lifetime coverage means that your warranty is in effect for manufacturing defects as long as you own your home. Coverage period is reduced for non-single family or commercial structures.
Owens Corning® Roofing Platinum and Preferred Contractors are the only roofing professionals authorized to provide an extended warranty.
In 2018, the current requirements to obtain an extended warranty include the following:
  • System Protection/ Total Protection Roofing System® (TPRS) Warranties: Hip & Ridge shingles plus two other accessories
  • Platinum Protection/Preferred Protection Warranties: Hip & Ridge shingles plus three other accessories
  • Exception: If your roof has Supreme® shingles, Owens Corning® Hip & Ridge is not required as long as the total number of required accessories is met for each warranty.
Each warranty starts with a TRU PROtection® Period during the initial years where coverage includes labor cost to repair/replace defective materials. The specific length of the TRU PROtection® period varies by type of warranty and shingle installed. Please refer to the warranty table for the shingle you are considering.

  • If we have received all the required information you should receive notification as to the disposition of your claim within 2-3 weeks.
  • If we do not receive all the required information, your claim will be significantly delayed. We will send a letter or e-mail identifying any missing information as we will not proceed with your claim, until that information is received.
We require shingle samples from the affected area of the roof to identify that the product was produced by Owens Corning and to be able to perform any testing to determine if there is a manufacturing defect. Please note it is important to replace shingles you remove as failure to do so could result in damage to the roof or the interior
We recommend contacting a local roofing contractor to help you obtain the proper information. To find a list of independent contractors in your area go to the following: https://www.owenscorning.com/roofing/contractors.
  • Providing documentation showing proof of ownership protects the homeowner by preventing anyone from entering a fraudulent claim on the property. For example, this document prevents a tenant from filing a fraudulent claim on a rental property.
  • Providing a proof of purchase confirms the date the shingles were installed, the type of shingle and the quantity installed. This information is necessary to correctly determine the warranty coverage for the claim reimbursement.
  • Coverage is based on the warranty in effect at the time your shingles were installed. To obtain a copy of a warranty for any shingles installed prior to last year, please call 1-800-766-3464 or email [email protected] to request a copy. You will need to indicate the month and year your shingles were installed.
  • A copy of the warranty for shingles installed within the last year can be found on our website at http://www.owenscorning.com/roofing/warranty-101.
You can check with the original installer or the shingle supplier to see if they have records. A proof of purchase can be a receipt from the point of purchase or contractor’s invoice.
Often proof of ownership can be found on the county website the property resides in. This can be a copy of a deed, tax bill or building permit showing ownership at the time the shingles were installed.
Color photographs can be emailed as attachments to [email protected]; please provide the claim number in the subject line. If email is not an option color printed photographs can be included in the claim box with the shingle samples to our world headquarters at:
